As part of the RECYPHER project, a Capture-the-Flag (CTF) Competition was held under the umbrella of the Pakistan Cyber Security Challenge, organized by the Department of Cyber Security and our network partner National Centre for Cyber Security (NCCS) on December 6th and 7th at Air University, Islamabad. This event highlighted the critical importance of advanced technical knowledge and skills in cybersecurity to enhance the capabilities of students and contribute to the safety and security of the broader community.
The primary objectives of the competition were to nurture talented youth and raise awareness in the critical domain of cybersecurity. The event attracted a significant number of attendees, including cybersecurity and IT industry executives, academia, and representatives from both the government and private sectors. The closing ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Inspector General of Islamabad Police, Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, who lauded the initiatives of Air University in promoting cybersecurity education and skills development.
During the event, the Director of NCCS and the Vice Chancellor of Air University addressed the participants, emphasizing the increasing significance of cybersecurity in today’s digital age. Vice Chancellor Air University, Javaid Ahmed, expressed appreciation for the support extended by the sponsors, co-organizers, and technical partners, including the RECYPHER CBHE Grant, National CERT, SECURISM Pvt Ltd, Airoverflow Pvt Ltd, and ByteBolt Pvt Ltd. He reiterated the university’s commitment to producing highly trained and qualified cybersecurity experts and acknowledged the role of the Pakistan Cyber Security Challenge in recognizing and fostering the nation’s cybersecurity talent.
The competition attracted over 300 participants from more than 40 educational institutions, with around 20 teams comprising 60 finalists competing in the final rounds. The flagship events included the Capture-the-Flag Competition, Pak-Crypt Challenge, and Startup Ideas Cup. Ultimately, three teams emerged as winners, demonstrating exceptional skill and innovation in tackling complex cybersecurity challenges.
The Pakistan Cyber Security Challenge is an annual event, and the National Centre of Cyber Security (NCCS) plans to continue organizing it regularly to inspire and equip the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. This nationwide initiative not only paves the way for identifying and nurturing cybersecurity talent but also plays a crucial role in enhancing the overall security posture of the country.
